[cool products: BedHead Deep Waver.]

I haven't done one of these posts in a long time ... well - truth is, I haven't been steadily blogging for a long time *wink* ... But I've had a whack-load of girls ask me how I did my hair this past Sunday - so here it is:

It's called the BedHead Deep Waver.  Simply put, it's like a crimping-iron-hair-curler.  I got it in the States a few weeks ago and have been wearing my hair curly almost every day since.  Because I was born with poker-straight hair, having waves is a CRAZY experience.  Especially because I find these waves almost look 100% natural.

If you put product in your hair first, I suppose it could be more "permanent" looking and more stiff ... but I don't.  My whole feel was that I wanted "beachy-hair".  What on earth for, I don't know.  It's rained almost every day for the last 10 days.  

I did a little google search for this product and TONS of videos came up from Youtube.  So - if you're looking for ideas or "how to's" you could just go there ... and search "bedhead deep waver" ... or even "beach curls" or something like that.  Click HERE to see one.  

I'm astounded at how many people watch these things ... one "hair curling" video had over 2million hits.  Wooow.

Anyway.  So that's the secret.  And I'll be doing it a lot this summer, I'm sure.  Not only because I love the way it looks down - but how fun it is to put it up the next day.  It's thicker and just easier to do ...

I've decided that I'm going to  grow my hair out for a bit.  I've had it short for so long, it's nice to put it up for a change.  I get bored so quickly ... But if it gets straggly and icky ... then out will come the scissors.  I'm not 15, that's for sure (um, for like 20+ years) ... no need to have long hair just for the sake of it *grin*.

So.  Here are my two looks: straight ... and curly.

[cool products: Things I'm Loving. Now.]

** this was written on Thursday, January 20 2012 ... and as a little update, after last night's worship practice and the kids tucked into bed, I watched "The Biggest Loser" and circuit trained with the stationary bike, free weights, floor-ab exercises and jumping jacks.  Felt MUCH better after some sweat.   But, my sugar addiction is calling me ... **

A few things to start off ... 

I am, once again, addicted to sugar.  I actually had a mind-blowing headache this morning, and popped (literally) 8 halloween-sized chocolate bars in my mouth.  One after the other.  And now my headache is gone.

How sick is that??

The cold weather isn't helping (it's -6Cdegrees here).  It makes me want to eat carbs and do nothing.  Well ... nothing, in a form of exercise.  So annoying since I was just starting to get back into running last week.

Why is it such a battle?  Some days I have such control ... only to lose it, along with all dignity, the next day.  One moment I feel wise, the next ... a fool.

Ah yes ... life.  Just keepin' it real here ... and I'm going to start again.  Right now ... and I'm going to brave the sugar-headache.  I think.

ANYway ... onto what I really wanted to write about ... 

FUN things *grin*.

Now ... I'm far from a beauty, far from a style-diva.  But there are things that I've found as of late that I'm really loving and thought maybe, just maybe, you'd like 'em too.

Skin Tint FX:  This is a mineral-based makeup that has literally change my perspective on makeup.  See ... I've been using a moisturizing SPF tint for years now ... and within a couple of hours, I was shiny and icky.  I was told about this product from the girl at Shoppers Drug Mart and WOW.  I bought it just before the Christmas Production and was AMAZED at how I never had to retouch ... even between shows.  My make stays, matte, all.day.long.  And it's SPF 30.  TRUE.  (Mine is in colour "E" ... light.)

Conceal FX:  Why.  Of course, the perfect match to my new skin-tint-mineral-makeup.  And seriously.  This stuff actually CHANGES colour to match your own.  No lie.  I'm amazed every time I put it on ...

L'Oreal Infallible Lipgloss:  This winter I had a "look" *blush*.  I know, it sounds silly.  But I loved the ruby-red lips and gold-glitter eyes for the Christmas season.  This lipgloss is fantastic.  It doesn't move.  Not even after singing for 2 hours in the Christmas production *grin*.  It can feel "sticky" and isn't really a moisturizing balm, but hey - it stays.  I like #315 in "Rebel Red".

TippyThai Handmade Bags:  I found this shop on Etsy and ordered this amazing bag!!  I love it, love it, love it.  It's made out of "wipeabe" material, it's grey and red ... lots of zippers.  Oh, it's so great.  It was lovely to toss out my ripped-fake-leather-icky-bag.

Slumdog Millionaire:  Ok.  I just might be the only person in the world that hadn't seen this movie, but last Saturday night my hubby and I put on NetFlix and watched this incredible film in amazement.  Wow.  If you haven't seen it - it's disturbing and wonderful all at the same time.  I really enjoyed it ...

[fave things: Grown Up Christmas List. Part 2?]

Apparently, I didn't give my hubby enough options the first time around ... which, I know couldn't possibly be true with 20 items on my list.  It just means he didn't like many of them *grin*.  Ah well ... that's how he rolls.

SO, this is what he said to me ... no word of a lie:  "Just post it up on your blog ... I'll get it there."  HA!  My hubby has finally learned the benefit of this blog ... even if it is only once a year *grin*.

Lens Cap Strap Holder.  I always misplace my camera lens cap.  I usually tuck in in under my tank around my waist ... but it would be so nice to HAVE a place to put it while it goes on and off my camera ...  Please excuse the horrible Canon advert.  I am a Nikon girl through and through.  $18.00 online.

The Ring Flash Adapter.  Staying with the camera theme ... how cool is THIS??  Only $40.00 and I think it'd be a fun little toy to try out ...  And I feel it necessary to remind my hubby to talk to SL about our PO box in the US.  Just sayin ... 

Professional Hair Flatiron/Straightener:  I have one ... but it's really cheap and it doesn't work NEARLY as well as the one my hair-stylest uses.  Yes.  I'd like a really good one ... not sure what kind?  Please give me some advice on this, ladies *grin*.  They run from about $59.00-$200.00 ... 

Gold chain.  I'd love a simple, thin, "when-the-light-hits-it-you-notice-it-then" gold chain.  Maybe with a little thingy on it ... like ... a flat circle disk, or a gold-ball, or a ... diamond?  Oh, now we're talking *laughing* ... 

kickboxing classes.  Oh yes, you read that right.  Hey hubby, if you're reading this - NR knows all about this ... she's taken a couple of classes and said it's awesome.  I THINK this is the right site HERE ... 

songwriting recording gear.  Hubby, are you still there? We have a few rockstar friends who could give some advice on this ... nothing fancy.  Just to be able to use Garage Band on my mac.

new runners.  yup ... I need some.  My runners have had it ... size 6/7.  Ones that can house my running chip ... I love orange still.  Kinda my colour when it comes to running ... 

ok ... I know, these are all quite "out-there" ... but really, I gave a pretty crazy list last time, no??  Ok ...  I'm having a very difficult time thinking of anything else ... 

I mean, Bodyshop, jewelry, gift certificates, camera treats, photography nicknacks, time with YOU *hubby ... love dating you *kiss** ... honestly?  Whatever I get, it doesn't matter.

Christmas is always great because of who I'm with, not because of what I get.  But you know that already.

So.  I've discovered the addiction that is Pinterest ... you can follow me by clicking the "pinterest link" on the right side of this blog ...

It's addicting and fabulous ... it lets you basically see the very best of the best, and use "boards" to save and organize images (that are usually linked to the webpages they're from) ... like having a million magazine subscriptions and pulling out and filing the pages that you want.

There are recipes, style and fashion ideas, home ideas, organization tips, "do it yourself" ideas ... and a bucket-load of "why didn't I think of that??" stuff.

Confused?  Don't be ... try it out ... I dare you *grin*.

And - my friend Shawna just told me about Polyvore.  Yee gads.  Its a place where you can create a group of images ... with links ... of things that you like or whatever.  Like this one I quickly put together just to show you.  There are hundreds of different templates ... I just quickly chose this.  You can hover over the images, and they link to where I found them ...

[fave things: Grown Up Christmas List ... ]

Ok ... I've gotten a lot of response about doing more "fave things" posts ... so here's the Big One for the year ... my "Grown Up Christmas List".

Every year, each family member in our family is asked for a Christmas list that they share with others - just as a guideline.  I know that some families really dislike this idea - so please don't hate on us because it's what we choose to do *wink* ...

I like to give a vast aray of ideas, as maybe it'll spark something in someone else of something that would bring them joy .., and I'm like most girls - the element of a little surprise is always nice *smile*.

This list is extravagant, but keep in mind that it's more of a "things I'm loving" post as apposed to anything else.   Here are a few things that would be lovely ... 

1. Kindle: It was on my "list" last year - but my hubby got an ipad for work, and thought that it would be like "doubling up".  But whenever I see someone on the skytrain, the airport, the coffee shop, with one - I think that it would be super cool to have.  I love to read, and think that this would be a welcome addition to my purse while I wait for Mattias' 1.5hr animation class to finish *grin*.

2. Amazon Gift Cards:  ... to buy digital books for my new kindle, of course.

3. Glass Teapot with Infuser:  A girlfriend of mine told me about David's Tea, here in Vancouver.  I have yet to try it - but I am ITCHING to start trying loose leaf tea.  Plus, I need a new teapot - a larger one - for when there are 3 or 4 ladies sharing in the yumminess.  This teapot holds six cups (1.5litres) and strains the loose tea leaves as it pours.  I think that's pretty fantastic. 

4.  Loose Leaf Tea from David's Tea:  This month's tea feature flavour is "carrot cake".  YUM.  And with teas like "Chocolate Mint Rooibos" and "Mango Madness" white tea ... can you really go wrong?  The only requirement for me is for it to be caffeine-free ... Caffeine is my enemy.

... and on a side-note, if someone you love is a tea-maniac like me - there are tea sample packages and other great gifts for under $30.00 at David's Tea, located in Guildford Mall or in Whistler, BC.   You can see more HERE.

5.  Tea Travel Mug:  If I'm going to be spoilt with fantastic tea - how great would it be to be able to take it with me ...  complete with built-in infuser.  I like the white one - and again, at David's tea in Guildford Mall and Whistler, BC.

6.  Individual Infuser Mug:  Oh ... are you seeing a pattern?  Yup.  So ... the teapot would be for many people ... and this would be just for me on those cozy nights while my hubby is out playing hockey, kids are all tucked in, and I'm watching some chick-flick while editing photos ... sounds perfect.  I love it in bright red.  David's Tea.  Guildford Mall ... and Whistler, BC.

7.  Dutch Oven:  I've seen these at Costco and HomeSense.  I love one-dish meals, but I don't have anything to really cook them in ... this would be lovely.  They are expensive - but hey - it's a list, right?  They run at about $99.00 - $199.00, depending on size and brand.

8. "Zoe Chicco" Necklace: I saw Hannah from the Biggest Loser wear this necklace all last season ... Now, I'm not 5'9 and 125lbs ... but I think I could rock it just the same *grin*.  I love how dainty it is (the large circle is 3/4" in diameter).  Obviously - I just love this style.  Finding it at the Winners jewelry counter is just fine with me *big grin*.

9: "Zoe Chicco" 4 Circle Bracelet:  ... well.  I wouldn't want the necklace to be lonely, now, would I?  *grin*

10. Wedge Boots:   These $99.99 boots are from "Spring" - a shoe store in my local Langley mall.  They're in "cognac" and I'd love 'em in a size 7.  I don't own any wedges  ... I think they're fun, feminine ... and might make me look a little bit taller.  Hopefully.

11.  Olive Canvas Classics by TOMS: ... yellow, red, chocolate, colour splattered, wedges,  ... they even have purple hounds-tooth.  I don't own a pair ... which is really sad because I think this company is super-cool with their "buy one, give one" policy.  I guess I just haven't thought I was ... cool? enough.  Well ... I still may not be ... but I'm ready to give it a try *grin*.  In the colour  "Olive", size 6.5/7.  LOVE them.

12. Oversized "Hobo" Satchel Purse:  A grey purse that holds everything ... I LOVE this purse.  I found this online ... and it's less than $30.00.

13.  "Run for Your Life Tank" by Lulu Lemon: ... truly, anything at Lulu is a treat, no?  This tank is long and a little loose, with a built-in, built in.  I love the "heathered royalty" colour as shown.  It's pricey ... $64.00.

14. "Inspire Jacket" by Lulu Lemon:  It's ridiculously expensive at $168.00, but ridiculously nice ... and hey - this is a list, just a list *grin*.  Size 4/6 for me ... *grin*

15. "Nature Bright SunTouch Lamp":  I haven't been actually diagnosed - but I know that I get SAD (seasonal affective disorder) during the winter months.  I'm sure a lot of people do - especially here on the west coast where the grey goes on for days and weeks ... This lamp helps with such an issue - and allows your body to make the necessary chemical changes to promote a happy winter.  It's so expensive, at $199.00.  I don't know where else to look, but I found this one on the London Drugs website ...

16. "Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Souffle Body Cream":  When a Christmas list has luxury in it, this is it.  Ok.  I don't own it ... never have.  It's pricy - but how yummy does it sound??  And it's Kelly Clarkson's favourite *wink* ... $50.00

17.  "The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl" :  I reeeeeaaally would like this cookbook.  Ree Drummond is pretty great about posting recipes and such - but I'm a bit of a sucker for a great cookbook.  A kindle book for a cookbook just isn't my thing ... I love getting pages worn and dirty from tried and true recipes.  I hope to get a chance to dirty up my own book ... *grin*

18.  Loungewear:   New pjs.  Who doesn't like new pjs for Christmas?  Found these on the Sears website for under $30.00.  Now, I'm a bit funny about the material and style for pyjamas.  I don't like flannel, or stiff cotton.  I like "jersey" fabric - loose and forgiving *grin*.  I like elastic waists, rather than a drawstring.  And I prefer the tops to be "collar-less" and not button-up. I like dark pajamas too .. navy, black, dark grey.  How precise is THAT?  *wink*.  I'm a size small, mom *grin*.

19.  The gift of shopping:  Gift cards are always an exciting gift for any woman.  The idea of heading out for some "alone" time with some extra cash ... perfection.  Our local mall offers gift cards that can be used at ANY store in their mall.  How great is that?? Le Chateau,  Sakura and Aldila Boutique are all some of my faves there.

20.  Spa Utopia:  Our city has one of the best spa facilities in all of Vancouver.  It's expensive - but if you're into atmosphere and calm, this is the place.  And Costco actually offers giftcards that save you $50.00 when you spend $200.00.  Now, that is a lot of money, but you get 5 cards worth $50.00 each ... and you can be done your shopping for all the women in your life *grin*.  I know what some are going to say, "giving a gift that doesn't cover the entire expense is a waste."  True enough ... but I'm willing to put a bit some of my own money in if there's a gift card to help out ...

I'm out of ideas ... 20.  Not bad.  I hope I've given you as many ideas as possible ... I've been preparing this blogpost for over a week and I am happy to be done *grin*.

[fave things: Things I'm Lovin']

I love seeing new things online, so every now and then I post a few of the things that I'm loving as well.

So - here again are a few things that I'm enjoying right now.  In fact - there are more *grin* - but I whittled it down to five items.  Gotta keep something under my sleeves, no? *grin*

1. Voluminous "False Lashes".  Ok ... I'm always on the hunt for a good mascara.  I like to be bold with my eye makeup - and am not afraid of colour.  But a good mascara is hard to find.  I hate the way there are seven million choices, and I can't tell which one is the best.  So when I headed into Shoppers Drug Mart to replace my old tube, the lady at the counter knew exactly what to show me.  "Don't you hate having to choose between "thickness" or "length"?  Now you don't have to ... "  And she was SO right.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this mascara.  I just wish it came in purple too *grin* ... And I actually bought two ... one for my bathroom drawer, one for my purse.  Just in case *wink*.

** please note that in CANADA, this mascara is called "Voluminous: False Lashes", not "False Fiber Lashes".

2. "Bakestone Brothers Thin Buns".  These 100 calorie buns are PERFECT.  They let me have a tuna sandwich without the heaviness of a starchy bread.  I get mine at Costco.  Fantastic.

3.  Hello Sugar! By La Senza.  Now.  I am assuming that I have no male readers ... I mean, my own hubby doesn't read this - so yours probably doesn't either *grin*.  So ... let me just say, without saying too much, that the childbearing years have not been so kind to my poor body.  But now I've found Hello Sugar - and I am telling you ... in.cred.ible.  I mean, it fits perfectly - no "gapes" (eek), and adds curves without looking ... fake.  I want one in every colour ... sorry I couldn't find a clearer image of it ... bleh.

4. FanFare - Best of Bridge Cookbook.  Yup ... it's out.  Another crazy-fantastic cookbook by the ladies of Best of Bridge.  With 200 new yummy recipes like Ginger Peach Pork Tenderloin and Stovetop Chicken Pot Pie .... and Mediterranean Couscous Salad and Szechuan Green beans ... White Chocolate Fig Squares and Coconut Lime Cheesecake.  Yum.  ... I got my copy at Costco.

5. "Cheer" by Escents Aromatherapy.  I have a fancy little diffuser that I bought a long time ago ... and I love it.  And I love having different scents in the home too.  Especially once the kids are asleep ... I find it "cleans" the air.  Literally.  This diffuser works up to 1000sq ft.  And my new favourite scent is "cheer" - a mix of benzoin and orange.  It has anti-fungal properties because of the cinnamon, and the citrus smells crisp.  It's very holiday-smelling without it being perfume-my.  Love it.

[cool products: What I'm Lovin'.]

It's been a while since I've posted ... and honestly?  It's after midnight and now I'm just being plain foolish for starting this.  But I feel the need to type (and, um, sleep) ... and typing seems to be winning ...

Here are some things that I'm lovingggg right now:

I've been looking for a multi-chain bracelet for a while now.  And while I was wondering aimlessly about etsy, I found this one.  Oh MAN.  I love it.  It's gun metal and slinky and exactly what I was looking for.  It's on its way from Australia and was under $15.00.  Kah-ching.

I am a tea FREAK.  Green tea, black tea, herbal tea ... I love it all ... plain.  No honey, no milk, no nothin'.  And recently I have found an appreciation for loose-leaf teas - which is why I'm putting this on my "wish list".  It's a teapot with a built-in infuser.  Perfect.

So, so proud of our friend, Benny, who has been apart of an amazing project in the UK.  Worship Central's new album was just released and TOPPED the UK charts.  So fantastic.  You'll want to download the album ... 

I have a love for boots.  The very first time I went to Italy with my hubby (pre-kiddies), I bought my very first pair of black stiletto boots.  I LOVED them ... and they were dirt cheap.  But that was  a long time ago.  And although I love a good pair of healed boots, I recently bought these Steve Madden boots ... and they have kinda made me look forward to jeans and sweater weather.  Although - I could wear a cute summer dress with them too *grin*.  I got them in the colour, "stone".

My family.  Maybe it sounds cheesy ... maybe it sounds glib or whatever.  But I adore my family.  Every day I am more and more thankful ... this world is a crazy place and we aren't guaranteed much, if anything.  Sickness, accidents, financial uncertainties, relational strain, loneliness ... our world is full of it all.  We cannot escape hurt and sadness ... but there is also so much incredible joy to experience ... and I am truly grateful for the faces that live in our home and what they bring to our day.

And ... I entered a photo into the I Heart Faces contest ... I kinda broke one of the rules, so I won't qualify to "win" - but the photo meant a lot to me ... check out the post at my RedHanded Photography blog HERE for more on that ...

[cool products: Hair. Part Duex.]

So.  A little bit ago I created a post containing the train-wreck hairstyles I have had over the years.   I then posted a few pics of hairstyles that I like.  I then chose one in particular that I wanted.

Then I had a haircut today.

*sigh*

So.  I knew that I'd have to grow part of it out - but as my hairstylist (whom I really DO like very much ...) was cutting, I was thinking "oh - shouldn't it be more like 'this'?"  But snip.  It was too late.  Then he started styling it ... and now I feel like it looks ... well.  The same.

Now maybe when I do it myself, I can make it "more" like what I wanted.  But this just proves to me that having a photo of what you really want can actually be disappointing.  Now.  As I said.  I have to grow out the front part ... but then, why did he razer it?

And in his defence ... he knew I wanted something different and he REALLY pushed for an "undercut" (insert Fauxhawk here).  Oh, and I almoooost did it.   If my hubby hadn't been so against it, I would have.

Anyways .... I'm not unhappy.

I'm just a little disappointed that it doesn't feel different enough.

Hmm.

Maybe I need to have a date with some black hair dye ....

[cool products: 101 Hairstyles.]

I've been pretty much every hairstyle you can imagine.  I've been cursed/blessed with poker straight hair, that I completely fought against since the age of 12.  Yes - the dreaded perm was a common expense for me during those painfully icky years ... 

When I was in grade 11/12, I desperately wanted long hair. I wanted it all one length.  I wanted a spiral perm.  I wanted it long and flowy ... but the growing out process from a really bad layered haircut proved to be too much.  By the time spring of my graduating year came around, I completely abandoned ship with a small bribe from my mom to get rid of it.  So, I cut it off and proceeded to look like I had stuck my finger in a light socket.

Attractive.  I know.  ... my prom photo (with my "cropped" date).

After highschool, my boyfriend at the time told me that he'd dump me if I ever cut off my hair.  So.  I pixied it and dyed it black.   Needless-to-say, that relationship ended not long after.  But I'm annoyed because I can't find any initial photos of when I did that ... this pic was taken about a month later during my travels in NZ with my friend.  My hair grows about 1 inch per month.  You can imagine how short it really was ... I was 19.

After that, I began to grow it back.  And I was pretty much a share-holder in every dark-brown-with-burgandy-highlights hair colour product.  Colouring my hair was a monthly ritual ... and for the first time ever - my hair was straight.

I grew it to my chin.  And then cut if off short again ... then grew it back.  This is me and my dad in England.  Just thought I'd throw that in.  I was 21.

Then.  It just kept growing.  I had never had long hair, never mind long STRAIGHT hair, before.  It was all one length ... and I was also sporting the thickest eyebrows ever, I see ... this pic was from a Mexico missions trip I went on.  There was a "long dress" dress code - in case you were wondering.

... then, in Puerto Vallarta with my BFF ... I think I was 22 then.

Then came the blond ... it started off as streaks and before I knew it - my whole head was pretty much blond.  And I also invested in hot rollers - to try and imitate all those lovely, ringletted friends I had ... Feeble attempt, I know.  The curls lasted for about an hour before they turned into a straggly mess ... 

I wore it up, down, straight, curly ... braids, crimped, low ponys, high ponys.  You name it, I tried it.

This was all around the time I met my hubby and got married (these pics are from the summer before I got engaged in February ...).  I was 23.

This photo I found (please excuse the quality ... eek) was taken in Fiji, five years after I got married (I was 29) ... I had just found out I was pregnant with our first child, Mattias, the week prior.  And after that ... that blond was gone.

This photo was taken when I was 8months preggo with Josiah.  About a year earlier, I had cut some bangs - which I hadn't had since I buzzed it - and I had a lovely reunion with the bottle of dark hair-dye.

After that, it's been a mix-mash of basically the same style.  Long bangs, side part, layered bob.  Currently, it's blonder in the front, and about an inch off of my shoulders.  And I am BORED with it.  It's been the same for so long ... This pic was taken last week.  I'm thirty *cough* seven.  

SO.  Last week I bought a 2011 hairstyle magazine, and I snapped a few of my faves with my IPhone.   Here are a few that jumped out at me.   

FIrst off - the fauxhawk.  I LOVE this.  I think it's beautiful.  Ok - maybe this one is a little bit high, but it's funky and feminine, edgy and bold.  And my hubby rolled his eyes when I showed it to him and said, "yuck".  So - I guess that one's out.  Dang.

I love this in platinum blond ... isn't she beautiful?  But again, my hubby is not a fan.  Boo.

So - there's this one.  But it's just a shorter version of what I have, no?  And I think she has an undercut  on the one side - which is exactly what my hubby doesn't like.  I may have try and win him over - I'm loving undercuts (not shaved, just short).

So, the winner?  Well, this is the pic I'm planning on taking to my hairstylist in a few weeks.  I'm not sure if I just like the hairstyle, or I just wish I looked like her *grin*.  That's the thing ... you can like a hairstyle on a model, but it may look like trash on you.  She has very fine features ... I, do not.

But I love this ... and it means that I'll be "growing it out" a bit.  Shorter on one side, "airy" and edgy on the other.  I like that.  And will I keep the blond if I do this?  Well ... It'll take me a while to get it like this ... maybe in the fall I'll go dark again.  Maybe with blond, the way this model has done the red?  I don't think I'd do red ... it'd clash with my wardrobe.

And my hubby?  He gave the, "yeah whatever" smile and nod when I showed him it.  Which is better than the eye-roll *grin*.  Pretty much a thumbs-up.
