[talk: Mattias' First Piano Festival.]

When I was a little girl, each spring meant that the Surrey Festival was soon approaching.  I competed in both violin (until grade 9 ) and piano (until my ARCT) - every single year.  Some years I won, some years I didn't ... but it was a good experience for me - and so we decided to let Mattias give it a try ...

The piece his piano teacher chose was called "Chimes", having the student depict the echos of churchbells.   My mom, who is an RCM examiner, worked hard with Mattias to get it just right.

Tias worked hard for my mom, unlike the tears he would give me.  He HATES working with me - and I get it.  I remember.  But, he LOVES having one-on-one time with his Nanny, and he always wants to do her proud.  This is a very good thing.

There are two "Mattias'".  One, who is silly and crazy and doesn't concentrate, and drives me batty when it comes to piano practice time.  And the other - calm, hard working, concentrating and musical.  He's eight.  I know, I know ...

When he's aware - he plays without flaw.

So, the day of the festival, I took Tias out of school just after recess.  He got changed and we headed to Nanny's house for a yummy lunch.  My Auntie Mary was in town for Josh and Bri's upcoming wedding ... a perfect time to just be together.

Then, before we headed to the church where the festival was being held - one last performance (um - this is a perfect opportunity to mention Grapevine Designs ... Lisa Moody was the decorator of this room, and the entire house - for that matter.  Her Facebook is HERE and her website is HERE.   And some of the images on her site?  By yours truly ...)

Here's the actual performance ...

We were so proud ... so much time and care taken.  He really pulled it off.  And his score?  A silver certificate ... in our opinion, he was robbed *grin*.  Hey - I'm qualified - I know these things LOL.  But there's always next year ...

Have a great one!
